Academy of EntrepreneurshipThe Academy of Entrepreneurship at Buchholz High School

A four-year magnet program focusing on the study of entrepreneurship as a career choice. The approximately 200 students study principles of entrepreneurship, business management and law, business ownership, and retail essentials. An integral part of the Academy is our 1200 square foot school store, “The Spirit Spot,” which is entirely student operated. For National Entrepreneurship Week 2008 we are inviting students at our school who have their own businesses to display and sell their products in “The Spirit Spot” as a way to bring attention to entrepreneurship. Our academy students actively participate in DECA activities as well as numerous school and community events. We held an entrepreneurship camp at our local Girls’ Club and at the Boys’ & Girls’ Club—it was a 6-day after school workshop taught by our entrepreneurship students and culminating in an awards ceremony held in our school auditorium. This is our DECA Entrepreneurship Promotion Project, and students will be presenting this during N.E.W. at our Florida DECA State Career Development Conference in Orlando. Altogether, we have 48 students attending and competing at the Florida DECA CDC. We will also be having local entrepreneurs in our classrooms as guest speakers during N.E.W. week.
